Kat Von D lock-it - Brushes

In this collection Kat Von D has so far released 4 Brushes. I have 2 below to show you

#20 Setting Powder Brush- retails at Sephora  for $38

This is a very soft bush. It is synthetic and in a dome shape. It isn't too dense like the Marc Jacobs Bronzer Brush  but has the same kind of shape. It has a lot of give to it so at first I didn't think I would have much use for it other than setting my face but  I was surprised at how much I liked it. It picks up the right am out of product to set your face and It works wonderfully with a loose setting powder. But what I have been really loving this for is for bronzer. Its perfect for all over Bronzing. As many brushes I have tried this is possibly my favorite for all over bronzing powder. I have used this for blush as well and it work nicely for that. This is a really good all in one brush for all your face products

#40 Edge Concealer Brush - retails  at Sephora  for $24

I was most excited for this brush. It is very unique. It is also synthetic and is really soft. The unique shape of this brush lets you do a lot of precise concealing such as around your nose, right under the eye brow and right on your under eye darkness. This is brush can also be used for precise cream/ powder contouring or contouring your nose.it blends how product beautifully especially cream products. However as much of a nice and uniquely shape it is I do not think this is a must have brush. ELF concealer brush functions pretty much the same to me. As much as I like this brush I think that there are few alternatives in the market for this one

Kat Von D Lock-it Setting Powder in Translucent - Review

The Kat Von D Lock-it Setting Powder in Translucent can be found at Sephora . It retails for $30 and contains 19g/0.67oz

This Powder is described as silky non-drying powder that Softly defuses pores and smooth imperfections and gives the skin a velvety matte finish. It also clams to be undetectable on all skin tones.

If you have darker skin tone like myself you would know that almost all powders described as "Translucent" is really not translucent on darker skin tones. Some more that other would show a grey/white cast on your skin so I was excited to try this out for myself.

The powder itself does not look a pure white like the Makeup Forever HD and is more like the color of the Laura Mercier loose setting powder (LM powder). However while the LM powder at a glance looks matte the Kat Von D powder does not. It shows to have a bit of a sheen to it which gives it the velvet texture. It is finely milled but I would say the LM powder seems to be a bit more finely milled.

Having used it however I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. It set my concealer without caking up and sort of blurred my pores to make my skin look even and made it smother. All in all I think this is very close to LM powder and I a close substitute.

If your looking for a loose powder (even for Dark Skin tones) then this is  a good one to consider

Kat Von D Lock-it Concealer review and Swatches

The Kat Von D lock it Concealer comes in 21 shades and retails at Sephora for $26 and comes with 6.25g/0.22oz of product.

The concealer clams to be 24 hour wear, crease proof, full coverage and hydrating

After wearing this for some time I can say do love this concealer. The formula goes on a bit thick but does not feel heavy under your eyes. It is a high coverage concealer and a  little goes a long way. The concealer blends beautifully with beauty blender and also a brush (Kat Von D #40). both methods blends out the product seamlessly without much effort.  I have not tried this on for 24 hours however it does last a good 12 hour work day without any creasing or it settling into any fine lines. I am not sure if I would call it hydrating however it is not drying under my eyes and it does stay put.

I think if you are looking for a good coverage concealer that will cover everything and last all day this is a once to be considered.

For reference I am about a NC47 in MAC and my preferred shade under my eyes is Shade 33. I can make shade 31 work as well if I want a more of a highlighted look.

Makeup forever Ultra HD Foundation - Swatch and Review

Makeup For Ever Ultra HD foundation clams to be a Ultra lightweight foundation that gives you a medium coverage  that looks very  natural with flawless finish and is good for all skin types. This comes in 40 shades and contains 1oz of product which is typical for a foundation and retails Sephora for $44.

This is the newer formulation that replaced the old Makeup forever HD foundation.

My main issue about this foundation is that even with 40 shades I cannot find a shade that matches me. I am still in between shades. shade 177/Y505 is a bit too dark for me and shade Y455 is too light. Shade 175/R510 is the best match I have which is the color I own but it is too red undertone for my skin. I think at $44 a pop getting 2 foundations to mix is a bit pricey. For reference I'm about a NC47 in MAC

This foundation gives the skin a beautiful  finish and is great for pictures.  It can be built upto a good medium coverage and does not look heavy on the skin. It is a very thin formula and  is undetectable on the skin if you have the correct shade. However coverage wise I find that it is not enough for me. If you do not have a lot of issues or discoloration to your skin I think you would love this foundation. However if you have some issues like I do this will not be enough. It does even it out pretty good however I find for my personal preference the coverage is not enough.

On me this does not last more than 4 to 5 hours and I have to powder my T-zone to keep it going for longer. I do not think the wear time is too bad for what the foundation clams to be and if you add primers, setting sprays and powders you can keep this going on for a full work day. I think this works best on Normal to Dry Skins vs oily skins.

If you have fairly good skin and doesn't need much coverage, and looking for a lightweight foundation and can find a good shade match at Sephora this is a good one to consider.  However for me I find that this is not my favorite foundation and there are many more that I prefer over this

Some being the Kat Von D lock it , Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able, Smashbox Studio Skin Nars Skin Tint and my New Favorite Urban Decay All Nightie

BareMinerals Gen Nude -Matte Liquid Lip color in Smooch - Swatch and Review

BareMinerals Gen Nudes collection consists  of 20 Matte liquid lipsticks / 20 lipsticks / 15 lip glossesand 5 lip liners. All different shades of nudes. If you are a nude lip lover this collection is a dream come true.

I only have one liquid lipstick to show you today but I can promise that there are more on my wish list.

Each of the liquid lipsticks retails for $18 and comes if 4ml/ 0.13 fl.oz of product

The color that I have to show you and what I  was most drawn to is the color Smooch which is described as a faded lilac. And it is just that. A faded lilac. The formula is thin but smooth and it glides on the lips nicely. It does not go on patchy for how thin the formula is. I find that compared to other liquid lipsticks I own this formula does not seem to dry out my lips too much. Also I find that this does not completely dry out. You can definitely feel this on your lips.

I personally love the concept of a liquid lipstick that's going to stay on your lips all day but I do not care for how much they usually dry out your lips and some even flake off. Most of the time I usually put on a gloss over any liquid lipstick after they start to feel dry. Much to my surprise I did not feel the need to put any gloss over this one as it didn't dry my lips out as much. I believe it has something to do with the fact it didn't quite dry completely on my lips.

I highly recommend the color smooch if you are drawn to cool tone lilacs such as  Requiem from Kat von D or Angeles from ofra. The color is very similar.

I think if you love liquid lipsticks and love nudes this line is worth checking out as I would really be surprised if you are unable to find a nude color you liked from this line

Except the Highlight shade all the rest of the Shades in the quad a mattes. The Highlight shade has a bit of a shimmer however its looks more of a satin finish when you apply.

If you are new to applying eye shadow you can use these as listed. The Base color all over the lid, the Contour color on the crease the Define color to define the outer V and the highlight to highlight the brow bone. You can also mix and match the colors to create whatever look you like. I like using this by itself when I'm pressed for time but I also mix In other shimmery colors on top of this to give me more options. The looks that come out of using these quads are very neutral  and wearable.

If you think that the Shades on this Quad are similar to the Original Shade and Light eye contour palette you are correct. They are similar however not exact. None of the shades are actual duplicates of the original palette.

The quality of the shade are very true to Kat von D eye shadow formula. They do kick up a lot of shadow when you out your brush into the pans but picks up a nice amount of product and blend very nicely on the eyes. The Mattes blend nicely on top of one another as well

All in all I think this is a nice Quad however if you have the original Shade and light palette you might want to pass on this particular Quad as this is very similar.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit - Gleam

This is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Gleam. This is the Kit which has the cooler shades. There is also a warm Kit in Glow which has peach/golden tones. I myself prefer the pink shades on myself

Gleam kit has 4 shades of pink tone highlights that are .26oz each for $40. So you do get a really good amount of product and value cannot be beaten. The pans are also removable to if you need to take a shade or two you could.

The shades in the kit are highly pigmented and almost has a creamy texture. The shades blends out beautifully and almost gives you a wet glow to your skin. If find that the formula for me does not exaggerate my pores in any way and that it gives me a skin like glow . None of the shades have any glitter particles which I really do not like in highlights.  If you want a barely there highlight this is not for you. All of the colors are going to be BAM in your face highlights.   The shades themselves can be worn as highlights, eye shadow, blush or blush toppers which gives you a verity of ways to use these

Hard Candy - this is the Darkest shade in the kit. This I would describe as a mid tone pink highlight with some dual chrome. If you have fair skin this would work well as a beautiful blush and if you are dark skin like me this is a pretty highlight or a blush topper

Mimosa - this is a peachy pink highlight. This again would work as a beautiful blush or a blush topper

Starburst - this is straight up pinky highlight with some silver to it. This is my favorite color from this kit

Crushed Pearl - this is exactly as described. Its a Crushed pearl. Gives the skin a beautiful sheen
